A chasm exists.
We all drink, brew and perceive coffee differently. Aimed at enthusiastic amateurs and professional roasters, this is an exploration of the gap between the way coffee is marketed and sold, and how it actually tastes.
Does specialty coffee fulfil it’s promise?
Subjective Truth is essentially a coffee swap. Send me a bag and i’ll send you a bag. The goal is honest respectful feedback about how the coffee is perceived. Plus it is tons of fun tasting different coffees! With the goal of assessing if each coffee meets the expectations established by the roaster. In the absence of clear roaster supplied tasting notes, does the coffee meet the drinkers expectation, perhaps based on cultivar, region, country, etc?
The coffee should be cupped using standard protocol as well as brewed (espresso/immersion/filter) according to roaster instructions. For those with Cropster, a form called Subjective Truth can be added to your cupping forms.
